Univ. of Ghana, Legon problems

I am glad Kwaku Owusu-Frimpong is taking this issue up. We all hope it will yield results before our younger siblings, and even our children, have to begin university. From lack of choice (and money), most are unable to pursue the calibre of tertiary education they wish to have.

It is such a shame that students suffer all through these 4 years - searching for obsolete course materials which are not taught well by the lecturers in the long run (and who can blame them when the ratio of students to lecturer is 1 teacher: as many as teacher can be FORCED to handle!), standing in long queues to pursue weeks-long registration (which if done professionally, will take as little as 6 hours), fight barbarically for seating places in lecture theatres, and a million other problems!!!!!!!!

4 years of such hellish experiences, only to finish and be told "You have to be coming here as often as possible to check on your academic records"! HOW? Some have some of their credits left out, some cannot find their names on the final lists, some have to re-write papers or ask for re-marking( and woe unto you if you dare ask for a re-marking! - so you simply re-write), and all sorts of things .... Why should we be suffering like this? When an assignment is done, you cannot even tell if is has been marked well - or has been 'massacred' under stress! You can only take the miserable grades assigned you.

Then the final heartache ... Arts students have only the end-of sem paper to rely on for their grades. Why? the lecturers are so under-paid, they refuse to do continuous assessment for Arts/Humanities students, due to the large numbers. So don't you fall sick, or lose your cool during exams ... you just might lose a whole year by flunking a 2/3 hour paper. You have no Continuous Assessment Record, dear! The Science students do though ... they are more precious!
... AND I COULD RAIL ON & ON & ON ...Oh, Legon! Why are you killing your future leaders?

So you call this a university? What a big joke.Let me ask you some questions here. How many books through out the whole of your education were writtten by Ghanaians?Since you started school from class one,how many letters did you recieve from school?(The reason for that question is that,my son has just started nursery in the UK,and almost every week,he comes home with a letter or two, as compared to the five letters in the whole of my secondary education). Can you name just one item that was brought into existence 100% by Ghanaians?Probably, the few items you can call are Apotoyewa, eta ,waduro and woma(mortar and pestle).Even the food we eat and the games we play.

The read sometime ago on the Ghanaweb that lagon is the tenth best university in the world.I began to feel good untill I started to ask myself, what happened to Havard, oxford, cambridge and all that.So I began to do a research just to find out that LAGON does not even appear in the top 500 list. And that the best African uni. in South Africa appeard at about 470-something on the list.As far as I know, all unis. are setup to make money, and the next question is,how much is the total turnover of all the unis. in Ghana put together anually?I realy want someone to come out with the figures

My Grandfather Nana Akwasi Yeboah never went to school but can make a gun. This is also true about so many Africans, and yet, our so caled intelectuals who governs us bypass them and waste our hard earned money on these same guns my illiterate Grandfather makes. What are we learning for?I think we are learning beause we want to be able to do whatever sombody has mede or come up with our own ones.So if you guys think you are going to have education  just to come out in a suit and tie to tell us,we need to buy all our wants from the whiteman,  then you will never ever win my respect.

(1) The whole of the architectural and engineering faculties in all the Ghanaian universities must be sent to the North to construct canals and locks for water supply.

(2) I want them to do a research into our food and come out with new ones.I am tired of the same fufu and stuff. And also how to present and marcket our food on the international marcket.

(3) Does anyony know the game called (Chaskele)?Well,Iwant them to develop and make it a national game.

(4) I want all PROFESSORS and all University students to quit politics so that, they can correct these polititians when they go wrong

(5) I want our Government to TRY the unis first before they buy anything from abroad.

(6) Why! Oh! Why! can't we make our own money?Currerncies in the form of coins have been around for thousands of years. We have good gold, silver and blacksmiths,we also have all the minerals to make these,so please come up with the ideas .

(7) While they are at it,can they do something about our KENTE INDUSTRY   as well?  Does it always have to be so narrow?Do we have to put so many of them together into one? Does it always have to be so thick and heavy?

(8)Can they stop trying so hard to make things like cars, airoplanes, ships,Tvs and stuff, but the parts and components?(i see people at the Kokompe in Accra and the Magazine in Kumasi doing the same).

(9) I Give you guys one year to solve all the mosquitoe problems or, I am going to withdraw all the PHDs and degrees.
